Father's Day Ideas:
What To Get Dad

Here's 5 ideas to get your hard-to-buy father

If you are like me, buying a gift for your father is challenging.

For starters, if he wants something, he goes out and buys it. No waiting, no making lists or leaving hints. He gets what he wants.

Getting him to share what's on his "wish list" is next to impossible. Oh, and what do you get the guy who has everything already?

Well, Sunday, June 18 is Father's Day, and McCombs Supply Co. has you covered.

No, we won't be selling you any colorful ties, but we do have the accessories he needs for fixing items around the house. In addition, we have checklist of parts like testers and meters that every guy needs and an assortment of work lights; you can never have enough flashlights.

DWL-1

DwL-1 expanded

My father turned 71 in May. At his age, he has plenty of tools. But I gave him one of the flashlights (DWL-1) we have in stock.

We have this flashlight displayed on our counter and we can't keep it in stock. It sells out quickly.

First of all, I love the aqua blue color. This dual work light with belt holder is two lights in one. It is a 250 lumen LED flashlight that can shine for at a distance of 754 feet. It has an extendable body with 190 lumen COB good for a distance of 60 feet.

The DWL-1 ultra powerful in both illumination and distance it shines.

It also has a convenient "no roll" design and is made from anodized aircraft grade aluminum, making it water  and impact resistant.

A quick, practical and rather inexpensive gift idea would include

Every guy loves gadgets and toys, and McCombs has accessories that are not only fun to use, but practical. Here are other options.

One of the fun, but practical devices is the MA-FL6287 - an extremely bright flashlight, one of the many new items from the MA-Line from Monti and Associates new being sold at McCombs Supply. Check out this link for a list of MA-Line parts and other products featured by McCombs for Father's Day.

The MA-FL6287 work light has a 180-degree adjustable head. It has a strong magnetic base with a hanging hook. It sells for $7.45.

MA-FL6287

In the same family as the MA-FL6287, the MA-FL6278 has a 90-degree head and its COB section slides up and down.

Let's talk about COB for a moment. COB stands for Chips on Board, a new technology in illumination. COB are smaller, clustered LED chips that are mounted directly to the circuit board. The Multi LED chips work together as one lighting module.

When it lights up, it looks like a lighting panel. Because of its compact design, officials say the COB outperforms traditional lighting by up to 50 times the light output per centimeter of light surface.

COB technology is starting to into the market and is set to take the whole industry by storm. One reason is because COB is efficient.

With less components in the LED chip, the thermal conductivity is directed at the circuit board. Without traditional LED chip packaging structure, researchers say that an average of 25 percent less heat is emitted from the LED chip.

Less heat means much higher efficiency rate and lower failure rates.

If your husband or son does not have test leads, this is essential and an easy item to store in a car or tool bag. The Heavy Duty Test Lead MA02991-3 is 14AWG and 24 inches long. The Low Voltage test Lead MA0531-2 is 18AWG and 18 inches long.

What's The Use?

Let's start with the most recent part mentioned - "Test Leads." Test leads are specially-prepared wires used to connect the meter to the circuit under test. The wires are coated in a color-coded (either black or red) flexible insulation to prevent the user’s hands from contacting the bare conductors, and the tips of the probes are sharp, stiff pieces of wire.

The black test lead always plugs into the black socket on the multi-meter: the one marked “COM” for “common.” The red test lead plugs into either the red socket marked for voltage and resistance, or the red socket marked for current, depending on which quantity you intend to measure with the multi-meter.

Why use a multi-meter?

The most common piece of electrical test equipment the multi-meter, which measures a multiple of variables: voltage, current and resistance. Multi-meters are not toys; they may become a source of danger when connected to a “live” circuit. It is always best to proceed with caution when using meters.
