Opening your dryer after it has finished its cycle to find clothes that are still wet or mostly damp indicates that a bad heating element may be the problem.

Clothes dryers often last many years, but sometimes minor problems prevent them from drying properly. Replacing the dryer element is a easy and inexpensive fix. 

In addition to the 279838 (also known as the DE838), McCombs Supply has a large inventory of dryer elements. 

Things to check 

To make sure the element is the issue, check the dryer to see if it is creating air flow. Often the heating element is fine but air is not flowing through the machine to dry the clothing. 

Also check the heating element wire for continuity. Access the element by pulling out the dryer and removing the back cover. Note: Make sure to unplug the dryer when checking the heating element.

The thermal fuse could use be an issue. To rule it out, look on the backside of the clothes dryer

Check to see whether it is blown. Many models have a thermal fuse mounted on the exhaust duct. It will be inside the back cover panel.
