Thanksgiving Is Coming,
Is Your Oven Working? 

The big day with family, food and football all started with the colonists from Plymouth, Mass. and the Wampanoag Indians in 1621. 

But did you know for more than two centuries the days of  Thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states? There was no national day.It wasn't until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day be held each November. 

The reason we have Thanksgiving in late November is a credit to  Sarah Josepha Hale, editor  of the popular women’s magazine Godey’s Lady’s Book (she's also known as the author of the nursery rhyme "Mary Had A Little Lamb").

According to Smithsonianmag.com she was also a leading voice in establishing Thanksgiving as an annual event. Starting in 1827, Hale petitioned 13 presidents, the last being Lincoln. She pitched her idea to President Lincoln as a way to unite the country in the midst of the Civil War.

During her campaign, Hale printed Thanksgiving recipes and menus in Godey’s Lady’s Book, the Smithsonian said.
She also published close to a dozen cookbooks. 

Traditional Thanksgiving dinner includes turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes but the First Thanksgiving likely included wildfowl, corn, porridge and venison.

The first Thanksgiving was cooked over an open fire. Today, the traditional meal is cooked inside in an oven, one that you hope is working correctly.

Oven Elements

One of the most popular purchases just before Thanksgiving is  oven elements. Though customers buy broil elements, the holidays (thanksgiving and Christmas) means baking. So bake elements are the hot items (pun intended). 

With all parts purchases, it is best to have your model number for your appliance and use the model to find the correct part number  ( see read related story on placing an order) 

A very common and popular bake element McCombs sells is the  WB44T10011. It sells for $13.05.

It is an exact replacement oven bake element for GE part number CH44T10011. It is rated at 240 volts, 310 watts and has three mounting legs.

This is a lower bake element that fits specific General Electric and Hotpoint and RCA oven models.

The dimensions of the element

18 inches wide, 16-1/2 inches long from mounting bracket to end of element, 2 ½ long (bent at 30- degree angle) from bracket to terminal end. Terminals are male spade. Mounting bracket has 2 holes on either end of mounting to back of range 2-7/8 inches centers.

Replacement for numbers WB44T10011, AP2030997 and PS249286.

It is designed to fit specific Electrolux manufactured refrigerator models including Crosley, Frigidaire, Gibson and Kelvinator.

Another common repair for ranges is  surface elements. Look at the  M31YA. This component and the MP22YA are sold as packages for 6-inch and 8-inch burners.

The M31YA is a set of one large 8-inch 2100 watt, 230 volt, 5 turns burner (MP21YA) and three small 6-inch 1500 watt, 2300 volt, 4 turn burners ( MP15YA).

Note: The turns are how many times the coil goes around in a circle.

It has a “Y” style bracket. This burner fit most ranges except GE/Hotpoint. This is a plug-in type. It plugs into a plastic receptacle.

Burner switches

You get by during the year without an infinite burner switch working, but now Thanksgiving is coming and you need that burner switch working.

The  WB24T-10025 is a popular purchase. The WB24T-10025 is a replacement burner switch for GE part number WB24T10025. The other number’s on the switch are 1404513 and NL 812677.

It is designed to fit GE model ranges, including GE, Hotpoint and RCA.

Specifications

It is a 5-wire switch, terminals are labeled L1, L2, H1, H2, and P. Terminals are 1/4-inch male spade except P, which is 3/16-inch male spade.

It is rated at 8.9 – 11.0 amps, 2600 watts, 240 volts. It is for the 8-inch (the large) burner.

Also try the  316436001 and 316436000 switches.

The specifications for the burner switch for Electrolux part number 316436001 are 240 volts, 2100-2600 watts, 8.8-10.8 amps.

It is designed to control the large 8-inch surface unit element, not the 6-inch small element.

This burner switch is designed to fit specific Electrolux manufactured range oven models including Crosley, Frigidaire, Gibson and Kelvinato.

The Robertshaw burner switch 316436000 works for Frigidaire, Electrolux. It is designed to control the small 6-inch unit element, not the 8-inch large element.

It is designed to fit specific Electrolux manufactured range models including Crosley, Frigidaire, Westinghouse and some select Kenmore models.

Another part that breaks on a stove and needs fixed before the holidays arrive is the oven safety switch. Try the  Y-30128-AF35. This is the direct replacement oven safety valve for Electrolux Frigidaire part number 3203459.

Inlet is 3/8-inch tubing. Two terminals on valve; one is 1/4-inch male; one is 3/16-inch male.

Another part that may need fixed prior to Thanksgiving is the  oven sensor probe. Check out the oven sensor
( part No. 12001656).

This oven temperature probe measures 6 inches from tip to bracket and measures 7 1/8 inches overall.

There are three different plug options.

This fits specific Maytag manufactured range models including Magic Chef and Whirlpool.
