Earth Day

  The year was 1970.
A year that marked the Beatles last album, the death of Jimi Hendrix and war in Vietnam. It was also the time in the United States where industries were blowing out smoke for air pollution and where American cars were slurping leaded gas through massive V8 motored-vehicles.

On April 22, 1970, rallies took place across United States, as 20 million Americans demonstrated in parks, on the streets and in auditoriums. Earth Day was born.

Thousands of college students organized protests against the treatment of the environment.

According to  earthday.org the idea for a national day to focus on the environment began with Earth Day founder U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (Wisconsin), who witnessed the massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969.

Today Earth Day is a global event, with nearly 1 billion people in 192 countries participating in what is the largest civic-focused day of action in the world.

McCombs Supply has you covered with ways to cut your energy bill by saving energy throughout the year, not just on Earth Day, which is Sunday, April 22.

The first Earth Day in 1970 gave a voice to the environmental concerns, states earthday.org.

Let’s start with the dryer.

Did You Know?

Attics can reach 150 degrees in the summer, making it a good reason to do attic work in the spring. When attics get that hot, it means you are likely running air conditioning or fans in the lower levels of your home.

You remember being taught in school that heat rises? Well with homes, heat migrates. In a place like Arizona, where it feels like summer most of the year, the attic fills up with hot air and pushes the air down into the house, raising the temperature.

The first thing we do when the house gets hot is crank on fans or turn up the AC (or both). The hotter the house gets, the harder we push the systems to run. This adds up to costly electrical bills and maintenance on our systems.

In addition, because hot air is full of moisture, the water hanging out in the attic causes condensation to build up. Excess condensation and heat can cause major damage to your roof.

McCombs has a remedy for this issue. Proper attic ventilation makes a big difference. A well-vented attic can help minimize the potential for damage.

The attic  ventilator motor (part No. 69317) for Broan will help keep your attic cool. It sells for $52.93.

We also have the attic  fan blade propeller (part No. FB99100). It is 12 inches, 32-degree and five blades. It sells for $13.08.

Additional attic parts include

thermostat (part No. 97008413), which can be purchased as kit

AFCB1 motor, thermo,

AFCB2 motor, blade, thermo,

AFCB3 motor, blade.

Year-round attic ventilation ensures a cooler, drier attic that can extend roof life, and a cooler attic lowers your air conditioning expense and extends the life of your air conditioner.

The Home Ventilating Institute recommends at least 10 air changes hourly to equalize temperature.

McCombs has a vast inventory of  attic motorsblade propellers and even HVAC parts.
