Tips On How To Keep You And Your House Cool During Summer Heat

How do you beat the heat of summer? There are no simple ways to beat the heat.

Seriously, Mother Nature is undefeated. But you can try to make it tolerable.

McCombs Supply, a replacement appliance parts business, can help. We sell condenser motors for air conditioning units and condenser and evaporator coil cleaners for AC units. McCombs also has round and oval run capacitors.

Attic Fan Motor

We also have attic fans motorsfan blades and other HVAC parts to help cool you down or help keep your current equipment running efficiently.

Here is an exert from the story Comfy Home Corner wrote called "Tips On How To Cool My House In the Summer."

The most obvious way to beat the heat is by installing some quality air-conditioners. But if you don’t have the budget, or you don’t feel like spending a fortune on the utility bills, there are many other ways you can keep your house cool this summer. For example by installing a solar attic fan. (Note: McCombs also has replacement parts for existing attic fans).

And lucky for you, this article is going to go through a few (ways to keep cool).

Of course, you don’t have to use all of them, and some might even sound like they won’t be very effective. But keep in mind that every little bit helps. Because if you combine some of the tips that will be mentioned, you are definitely going to feel a big difference. So, let’s get into how I can cool my house in the summer.

Here is the link to the complete story

A few of the unique ideas include the following:

Ice, Ice, Baby

My favorite is the one  pictured at the top of the page. It is ice parked in front of a fan. The writer points out that you can turn that fan into "a mean little air conditioner," and all you need is a constant supply of ice.

Believe it or not, this is a trick that became popular during the days when air conditioners weren’t designed yet. Years ago people took the ice in a bowl and placed it in a spot where the fan blows over it.

"You’ll be amazed how much the hot breeze cools down with this basic trick," the writer points out. The key: Make sure to have plenty of ice.

It's Curtains For You, Buddy

The story says to show wisdom with windows and curtains. Namely, when to have the windows open and when to draw the curtains. If you keep the windows closed and you keep the curtains drawn, you will notice how little heat actually enters the room.

Keeping the windows closed will prevent heat from circulating through the room. Do the opposite at night. Open the windows and let the air move through the room.

Ceiling Fan In Reverse

On hot nights I often put a fan in an open window and blow the fan air out. It seems odd to blow the fan air outside my home, but the fan acts to circulate the hot air out of my rooms upstairs.

So why not the same idea with ceiling fans? Run them in reverse.

If you have ceiling fans, you can likely make the blades turn in the other direction.

This has the same effect as the fan blowing air out the window.

It pulls the hot air from below and takes it toward the ceiling. This can be very effective.

While we are talking about fans, McCombs also has Broan fan and motor assembly. This is a nice plug and play part. Just take down the old unit and place this one already assembled back in its place.

McCombs also has light lens covers and bathroom vent fan motors.

Other Tips

- Use energy saving light bulbs. Conventional bulbs use more heat and energy.

- Seal windows and doors. If heat escapes your home through windows and doors in the winter, the same applies for cool air during the summer months.
