Change Oil Filter On Furnance

There is one part of your furnace that requires your attention that is often neglected by homeowners. It is essential to keeping your furnace happy, and your family healthy.

It is your furnace filter.

We change the oil and filters in our cars, but don't think about the furnace until it stops working.

If you used your car as often as you use your furnace and air conditioner, it would have traveled about 201,945 miles in the past year.

That's like getting more than 50 oil changes for your car.

You wouldn't - okay, you shouldn't - drive your car that far without a single oil change, and likewise, your furnace shouldn't run that long without several filter changes.

Just like replacing your car engine’s oil and air filter every 3,000 miles, a clean HVAC air filter protects your furnace system from becoming damaged and, ultimately, failing entirely.

Replacing your furnace filter is the key to a healthy furnace. By keeping a good filter replacement schedule - put a reminder in your cellphone or mark your calendar - you will reduce wear and tear to the furnace and keep your home warm, while keeping your family healthy and controlling energy costs all winter.

Filterers are relatively inexpensive (McCombs Supply sells filters for less than $5.00) and can protect a cooling and heating system that cost as much as $3,500.

How often should you replace your furnace filter?

Typically, you will want to replace your furnace filter every 3 months.

Changing a furnace filter is one of the quickest and easiest way to maximize the efficiency of your heating system and helps provide clean air. Here is a video showing how to change a furnace oil filter.  When in doubt, swap it out.
